Being a Coach

Piotr Radii

Who is a coach, really – beyond methods, tools and certifications? In “Being a Coach”, Piotr Radii shifts the focus from coaching to the person of the coach. He explores awareness and self-awareness, values, beliefs, emotions, spirituality, integrity and a systemic understanding of the human being. This is a book for coaches, leaders and managers who want to examine not only what they do when working with another person, but above all who they are in that relationship.

About the book

In coaching, much is said about the process, competencies, questions and tools. Far less is said about the person who uses them. Yet, as Piotr Radii reminds us, the coach’s most important tool is the coach.

“Being a Coach” is an invitation to look more deeply at this role. The author does not offer yet another definition of the profession or a catalogue of techniques. He begins with more fundamental questions: Who is a coach not? What does becoming a coach really mean? What level of awareness and self-awareness does this work require? What role do beliefs, emotions and values play? And where do spirituality, integrity and systemic thinking begin?

This is a book about coaching, but even more about the human being who accompanies another human being in development. It is about responsibility, humility and a way of being. About the difference between values we declare and values we actually live. About the need to recognise our own truths, emotions, feelings and points of reference before supporting others in discovering theirs.

Piotr Radii guides the reader from the coaching nature of life, through an attempt to define the coach and the process of becoming one, to development, emotions, beliefs, values, spirituality, integrity and systemic thinking. He does not present a single mandatory truth. He shares his own perspective and invites reflection, self-inquiry and discussion.

“Being a Coach” is intended not only for practising and aspiring coaches. It is also for leaders, managers, mentors and professionals who support the development of others – anyone who wants to understand more deeply how their own awareness, attitude and presence shape the quality of a relationship with another person.
